Market Studies

Linda Lee Bower carried out comprehensive studies for Arthur D. Little, Inc. on telecommunications markets in several countries, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, and Ecuador, with field work in each country. She wrote a report for each country, covering the telephone network, record and data systems, satellite communications, mobile radio, and paging.

The reports included an analysis of capital investment, export-import of equipment, and government policies and regulations. In addition, she wrote a report on digital PBX technoogy and telecommunications requirements of the Federal Government.

Newsletter Editor

Linda Lee Bower did a stint as Editor of Global Telecom Report, a business newsletter that was published by Phillips Publishing International some years ago. She was responsible for planning and writing articles on telecommunications developments worldwide. Representative topics include:

  • Issues in privatization of the telecommunications sector
  • Funding and financing of telecommunications development
  • Deployment of digital cellular technology worldwide
  • Standards for high-definition television (HDTV)
  • The telecommunications market in Latin America

User Manuals

Linda Lee Bower wrote user manuals for a new line of calculators developed by Texas Instruments. The project called on her skills in writing, editing, desktop publishing, as well as her experience in math teaching and tutoring, and her foreign language abilities. Her responsibilities and activities included:

  • Wrote and formatted manual.

  • Composed problems and determined keystroking for examples to illustrate calculator's functions and capabilities.

  • Participated in software testing.

  • Coordinated production of manual in over a dozen languages.

  • Reviewed translations for DTP issues.

  • Proofread Spanish, Portuguese, and French translations.

  • Coordinated with engineers and other team members on specs and format of documentation.

She also edited a Teacher Guide that accompanies TI InterActive! (software that enables math students to create documents containing math objects).

Educational Technology

Linda Lee Bower has produced Web content for download to Texas Instruments handheld devices. Content included instructional materials in mathematics, economics, science, and social studies.

She worked with teacher/author input and reviewer notes to validate problems and verify solutions; then she produced Study Cards (electronic flash cards) in the TI Study Cards Creator software and tested the material on the devices.

Corporate Profiles

Linda Lee Bower wrote over 100 corporate profiles under contract to Phillips Business Information Inc. for their TelecomWeb electronic information product. This project covered the major telephone companies, competitive access providers, cellular, paging and new PCS operators, cable and wireless cable companies, satellite systems, DBS operators, and equipment manufacturers. Each report provided a discussion and analysis of the following:

Scripts

Linda Lee Bower has written scripts, both drama and comedy, which have been produced and/or published.

  • Her one-act play, The Incredible Pregnant Man! was produced by the Silver Spring Stage One-Act Festival in 1987. Ms. Bower directed this production.

  • Another of her one-act plays, Mother for Hire, was produced at Silver Spring Stage's 1991 Festival, again with Ms. Bower directing. The following year, this play was produced at a festival in New York.

Project Management

Linda Lee Bower has served as Project Director for dozens of technology assessment and market forecasting studies covering various telecommunications and media technologies, as well as in biotechnology, healthcare, and business and finance. These studies assess the technology and market of interest, analyze the competitive situation of service providers and equipment manufacturers, identify applications and user groups, analyze policy and regulatory developments, and forecast service revenues and equipment sales. Topics of published reports include:

Teaching and Tutoring

Linda Lee Bower taught Business Math as a part-time faculty member at Montgomery College in Maryland, and also did tutoring in the Math Lab there. This experience was directly aplicable when she wrote user manuals for calculators.
